Paradise - Margaret Bay, Cape Grenville FNQ
3-12 August 2019
Slowing down the pace of our trip meant that we had time to explore Cape Grenville and relax with our sailing pals. The ocean side of Cape Grenville is very windy, and all the plastic and debris off boats seem to land on Indiana Bay. There are piles of rubbish there and some stuff that is useful that can be salvaged.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk from Margaret Bay to Indiana Bay, and the trail is marked by items that are found along the beach. The trail is fittingly named the Blue Walk, and we walked this track a few times. The first day was a 15km round trip searching for the nautilus shell amongst the mangroves and debris. Another time we went just for the oysters at low tide, John was like a little kid in a lolly shop collecting the oysters.
We met a lovely Hungarian couple and had Hungarian Goulash for dinner. Peter ran around all morning setting up the campfire, he sourced the rocks and salvaged the spreaders from a sunken boat to make the frame. All the boaties pitched in by supplying the meat, veggies and flour and Ilona whisked up her magic.
We had morning tea on Neriki and Michelle made freshly baked date scones. Andrina and Sean gave us another two crayfish, so we made lobster mornay for them and did a cooking lesson for Neil.
We got to meet Neil's cat Sailor, and he kept him on a tight leash in case he took off. Sailor is one well-fed cat, eating prawns and sardines every day.
The tides up north are quite big, and we got caught out again, luckily there are some strong people around to carry those boats back into the water.
We will miss our pals Sean, Andrina and Neil and we hope to see them again in Port Douglas one day.
Of interest there was a shark attack the week before, here the news:
