Paradise - Pilot Whales & Mainland - Port Bradshaw

East Arnhem Land NT, Sept 2019

Paradise - Pilot Whales & Mainland East Arnhem Land NT, Sept 2019 – Port Bradshaw on the mainland of East Arnhem Land is a geographic beauty, check out the rock formations in the video. A permit is required to go ashore, so we weren’t able to go exploring, but that was okay cause there was plenty to see from the water.

We encountered some pilot whales while fishing from the tender. They seemed rather cute initially and then became somewhat grumpy when we were following them. On the third time around, we got the hint and moved away, in case they decided to give us a whack!.

Gove Harbour was our home for three nights. We had use of The Boat Club facilities, and the Wessel Vessels gang helped flake a sail (see the previous post). We all gathered there for dinner on our last night with Wessels Elder, Terry and his wife Clely. He gave us tips for the Wessels and said to come back safely as there are some large ocean swimming crocs there.

A day trip to Yirkalla and Nhulumbuy took us to the Art Centre, and we saw at East Arnhem Land Surf Club, although I’m not sure if anyone goes surfing there.

The boys played another trick on John and managed to get a picture of John at the service station, he didn’t pay one of the bowser bills (due to operator error). They plastered his picture on the wall and said that the Police were looking for him. They got him good.

The next post will be The Wessels Islands.
